A weekend in York
Medieval walls, a magnificent minster and cobbled streets
York is one of England's best city-break destinations. It has a vast medieval cathedral, a complete ring of city walls you can walk, narrow cobbled streets and a long list of museums, all within easy walking distance.
Because everything is compact, it works well for a first-time two-night visit, and it is easy to reach by train from much of the country.
How to get to York
- From Manchester: About 1.5 to 1.75 hours by direct train, or about 2 hours by car.
- From Liverpool: About 2 to 2.5 hours by train, usually with one change.
- From London: About 2 hours by train from King's Cross.
Journey times are rough guides. Check live train and road times before you travel.
