How we choose destinations and activities

We aim to cover a spread of UK places for a short break: well-known cities and national parks, and quieter towns, coasts and villages that are easy to overlook. We pick places because they suit a weekend, with enough to do in two or three days, realistic ways to get there and a range of budgets. We do not accept payment to feature a destination, hotel or activity.

How the guides are made

We use AI tools to help research and draft our guides, and to power the finder. We then review and edit them. Where we cannot confirm a detail, we leave it out or say it is an estimate. The hotels we mention are long-established places often recommended for an area, listed in no particular order, and you should always check current ratings, prices and availability before you book.

How we estimate costs and journey times

Our budgets are rough estimates for two people for two nights, built from typical price ranges for rooms, food and activities in each type of destination, and they exclude the cost of getting there. Journey times are approximate. We do not yet show live prices, so use the comparison links to check the real figure on each booking site.

How we earn money

Some links are affiliate links, so we may earn a commission if you book or buy, at no extra cost to you. The order of results does not depend on commission. Read the full explanation on our affiliate disclosure page.

Corrections and updates

Places change, and we will sometimes get things wrong. Every guide shows when it was last reviewed, and has a link to report an error or share a tip. We aim to check reports promptly and fix confirmed mistakes. You can also write to us through the contact form.

Tips from travellers

We welcome tips from people who have been there. Tips you send are not published automatically. If we use one, we will check it first and will not use your name without your permission.
