Privacy policy
Last updated 1 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information BritBreaks collects, why, and what your rights are. We have tried to keep it short and clear.
1. Who we are
BritBreaks (britbreaks.uk) is run by Shivatheesan Jeganathan, an individual trading as BritBreaks in the United Kingdom. We are the “data controller” for the information described here. You can contact us through our contact form.
2. What information we collect
- What you type into the finder: your description of your ideal weekend, where you are leaving from, your budget, how far you will travel, the number of nights and the number of people. We do not ask for your name or email address there, so please do not include personal details in your description.
- The contact form: your name, email address and message, if you choose to write to us.
- Technical information: like most websites, our hosting provider and the services that deliver our pages and photos can see your IP address and basic device and browser details when you load a page.
- Visit statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. It does not use cookies and does not track you across other websites. It collects basic, non-identifying information such as the page visited, where you came from, your device and browser type, your country and how quickly the page loaded.
3. Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To generate the weekend ideas you ask for. We rely on our legitimate interests in running the service you have requested.
- To reply to your messages. We rely on our legitimate interests in answering enquiries.
- To keep the site secure and working properly, and to prevent misuse. We rely on our legitimate interests.
- To understand how the site is used so we can improve it, using the visit statistics described above. We rely on our legitimate interests.
- To meet legal obligations where they apply.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. To run the site we use these providers, who process information on our behalf or receive it when you use the site:
- Netlify: hosts the website and handles messages sent through the contact form.
- n8n: the automation service that receives your search details and passes them on.
- OpenAI: the AI service that turns your search details into weekend ideas. Your search details are sent to it. Please check OpenAI’s own policy for how it handles data from its business API.
- Unsplash and Wikipedia (Wikimedia): your browser loads photos directly from them, so they can see your IP address.
- Cloudflare: provides our visit statistics (Cloudflare Web Analytics).
- GoDaddy: our domain name provider.
When you click a link to another website, such as a booking site or Google Maps, that site’s own privacy policy applies. Some of these links are affiliate links, explained on our affiliate disclosure page.
Some of these providers may process information outside the UK, for example in the United States. Where they do, they should use safeguards approved under UK data protection law. See their own policies for details.
5. How long we keep it
- Search details: we keep these only as long as needed to run and troubleshoot the service, and aim to keep them for no more than 30 days.
- Contact messages: for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, normally no more than 12 months.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising. Our visit statistics tool, Cloudflare Web Analytics, does not set cookies or store identifiers on your device. Your browser may temporarily remember a few things for your visit, such as which background photo is being shown. This is cleared when you close the tab. If we add advertising or other tracking in future, we will update this page and ask for your consent where the law requires it. Websites you visit through our links use their own cookies.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, to restrict or object to how we use it, and in some cases to receive a copy in a portable format. To make a request, use our contact form. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
8. Children
BritBreaks is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
