Kirkby Lonsdale is a small market town on the River Lune, on the border of the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and Lancashire, with narrow streets, a market square and a Norman church. Its most famous sights are the medieval Devil's Bridge and a view over the Lune Valley that John Ruskin called one of the loveliest in England.
It has pubs, delis and independent shops, and is a good base for the quieter southern edge of both national parks.
