Ilfracombe is a lively harbour town on the north Devon coast, built on steep hills above a sheltered harbour. Its most surprising sight is Verity, a giant bronze statue of a pregnant woman holding a sword, standing at the harbour entrance.
It has Victorian tidal bathing pools carved into the rocks, a working harbour with boat trips and some of Devon's best beaches, such as Woolacombe, within easy reach.
