The Gower Peninsula was the first place in Britain to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in 1956. It juts out into the Bristol Channel west of Swansea, with sandy bays, high limestone cliffs, caves, castles and a famously dramatic tidal island at Worm's Head.
It is within easy reach of Swansea and Cardiff, and is a favourite for surfing, walking and quiet seaside breaks.
