What to expect
Pen y Fan is the highest peak in southern Britain at 886 metres. Most visitors climb it from a car park on the A470 and combine it with neighbouring Corn Du. It is popular and the main path is clear, but the weather on the ridge can turn quickly. For a quieter walk, try the longer circular routes that approach from the Neuadd reservoirs.
Tips before you go
- The main path gets very busy at weekends.
- Winter conditions can be severe, with ice and strong winds.
- The national park uses the Welsh name Bannau Brycheiniog alongside Brecon Beacons.
