The Brecon Beacons, now officially called Bannau Brycheiniog, is a national park of high red sandstone ridges, grassy hills and hidden waterfalls. Pen y Fan is the highest mountain in southern Britain, and the park is an International Dark Sky Reserve.

It is easy to reach from Cardiff and Bristol, so it makes an ideal weekend escape.
