A weekend in Chester
Roman walls, medieval Rows and a riverside setting
Chester is a compact walled city on the River Dee, close to the Welsh border. It has some of the best-preserved Roman and medieval city walls in Britain, unique two-level shopping galleries known as The Rows, and a cathedral and riverside to explore.
It is an easy trip from Liverpool and Manchester, which makes it ideal for a short break, and a good base for North Wales.
How to get to Chester

- From Liverpool: About 45 minutes by train, or about 45 minutes by car.
