What to expect
Roseberry Topping is a distinctive, cone-shaped hill of 320 metres, sometimes called the Yorkshire Matterhorn, on the northern edge of the North York Moors. A short but steep path climbs to a summit with views over Teesside and the coast, and a circular route can include Captain Cook's Monument nearby. It is a popular outing for families and photographers.
Tips before you go
- The final climb is steep and rocky, and can be slippery when wet.
- The summit is exposed, so wrap up on windy days.
- Combine with a visit to Great Ayton, where Captain Cook went to school.
