Skipton is a lively market town on the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales, with a well-preserved medieval castle at the top of its High Street and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal running through the centre. It is known as the Gateway to the Dales.
It has good independent shops and pubs, regular markets and is handy for Bolton Abbey, Malham and the Settle to Carlisle line, and it has a direct train from Leeds.
