What to expect
Ingleborough, at 723 metres, is one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, a distinctive flat-topped mountain with a Iron Age hillfort on its summit. A popular circular route from Clapham passes Ingleborough Cave and Gaping Gill, a huge pothole, before climbing to the top by a steady path. The walk is about eight miles and takes around five hours.
Tips before you go
- The summit plateau is exposed and can be hard to navigate in cloud.
- Gaping Gill is a dangerous pothole, so stay on the paths.
- Wear boots, as the paths can be muddy and rocky.
