Cheddar Gorge is the largest gorge in Britain, a steep limestone ravine cut into the Mendip Hills, with cliffs rising up to about 140 metres. A scenic road runs through the gorge, and walking trails climb along the cliffs.
It is also known for its show caves, where Britain's oldest complete skeleton, Cheddar Man, was found, and for the cheese that takes its name from the village.
