What to expect
Stanage Edge is a long gritstone escarpment overlooking the Hope Valley, popular with climbers and walkers. A path runs along the top for several miles, with wide views and dramatic rocks, and circular routes start from the car parks or from Hathersage. Heather moorland, hidden caves and old millstones add to the interest.
Tips before you go
- The edge is exposed, so carry waterproofs and layers.
- Be careful near the edge, as the drop is steep.
- Combine with a stop at a Hathersage cafe or pub.
