What to expect
Dovedale is a beautiful limestone valley on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire border, with a clear river, wooded slopes and dramatic rock formations. A walk from the Dovedale car park crosses the famous stepping stones, passes caves and pinnacles and continues beside the River Dove. Thorpe Cloud, a rounded hill at the entrance, is a short climb.
Tips before you go
- The stepping stones can be difficult after rain, and the river may be too high to cross.
- The paths can be rocky and slippery.
- Visit early or on a weekday to avoid the crowds.
