What to expect
The Monsal Trail is a flat, traffic-free path of about eight and a half miles along a former railway line, running from near Bakewell to Wyedale, with spectacular views of the Wye Valley and Monsal Dale. Several railway tunnels have been opened to walkers and cyclists, and there are cafes and bike hire at old stations. It is ideal for families and casual cyclists.
Tips before you go
- Bring a bike light for the tunnels, which can be dark.
- Hire bikes in advance at weekends.
