What to expect
Hadrian's Wall Path is an 84-mile National Trail across northern England, but you can enjoy short sections in a weekend. The central stretch near Housesteads Roman Fort and Steel Rigg is the most dramatic, with the wall running along a ridge of crags. The area includes the site where the famous Sycamore Gap tree stood before it was felled in 2023.
Tips before you go
- The central section is hilly. Wear proper walking boots.
- Combine the walk with a visit to a Roman fort or museum.
- Buses run along the wall in season, so you can walk one way.
