What to expect
Durham Cathedral is a masterpiece of Norman architecture beside the castle on a loop of the River Wear, together a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The heavy, patterned columns and ribbed vaulting are among the earliest of their kind. The cloisters appeared in the Harry Potter films. You can also climb the tower for views over the city.
