Belfast is a lively city with a rich and complicated history, and day one takes in the Titanic story, the murals and the city centre. Day two heads out for the Antrim coast and the Giant's Causeway, so a car or a tour is useful.
Treat the political history with respect, and listen to local guides.
Day 1: Titanic and the city
- Morning: Visit Titanic Belfast, the museum on the site where the ship was built, and allow two to three hours.
- Lunch: Eat at St George's Market on a Friday to Sunday, or in the Cathedral Quarter.
- Afternoon: Take a Black Taxi tour of the murals, or a walking tour in West Belfast.
- Evening: Have dinner and a drink in the Cathedral Quarter, famous for its pubs and music.
Day 2: The Giant's Causeway coast
- Morning: Drive or take a tour along the Causeway Coastal Route, stopping at Carrickfergus and the Gobbins.
- Lunch: Eat in Ballycastle or Bushmills.
- Afternoon: Walk at the Giant's Causeway, a World Heritage Site of basalt columns, and see the Dark Hedges if time allows.
- Heading home: Return to Belfast in the evening, or stay overnight on the coast.
Where to stay
The city centre and Cathedral Quarter are lively and convenient. The university area is cheaper and quieter, and the Titanic Quarter is modern.

Getting there and around
- From Scotland: Ferries run from Cairnryan to Belfast in about 2 hours 15 minutes.
- From Liverpool: Overnight ferry sailings run from Merseyside, or fly from many UK airports.
- From Dublin: About 2 hours by train.
The city centre is walkable, with good buses. For the coast, a car or a bus tour is best.
If it rains
In wet weather, add the Ulster Museum, the Crown Bar and a long lunch at St George's Market.
