What to expect
The Jacobite is a steam train that runs between Fort William and Mallaig on the West Highland Line, crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct made famous by the Harry Potter films. The route passes lochs, mountains and the Atlantic coast. It operates seasonally, and sells out in the summer, so booking early is essential. Mallaig is the ferry port for the Isle of Skye.
Tips before you go
- Book months ahead for July and August.
- Sit on the left side for views of the viaduct, but check your carriage layout.
