Salisbury is a compact cathedral city in the south of Wiltshire, with the tallest church spire in Britain at 123 metres, in a peaceful close of historic houses. The cathedral also holds one of the four surviving copies of the Magna Carta from 1215.
It has a medieval market, riverside walks and the ruins of Old Sarum, and is the easiest base for visiting Stonehenge, only about nine miles away.
