A weekend in Dunkeld

A cathedral village on the River Tay, in Perthshire's Big Tree Country

Dunkeld is a lovely small town on the banks of the River Tay, with a ruined cathedral on the water's edge, a street of whitewashed 17th-century houses and a long wooden bridge. It is part of Perthshire's Big Tree Country, with ancient forests and some of the tallest trees in Britain.

Across the river is Birnam, with the old oak said to be linked to Macbeth and Beatrix Potter's summer holidays, and walks lead to a pretty waterfall and a folly.
