Barmouth, or Y Bermo in Welsh, is a traditional seaside resort on the Mawddach estuary, with a wide sandy beach, a harbour and a long wooden railway viaduct. Steep hills rise straight behind the town, and the mountains of southern Snowdonia are on the doorstep.
It is good value and a great base for walking, with Cadair Idris, the Panorama Walk and the Mawddach Trail all close by.
