What to expect
Boat trips from Mull, Ulva Ferry and Tobermory visit Staffa, a small uninhabited island of hexagonal basalt columns, home to Fingal's Cave, which inspired Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture. Many trips also stop at Lunga in the Treshnish Isles, where puffins nest between roughly May and July and can be seen at close range. The sea can be rough, and trips are often cancelled.
Tips before you go
- Book early, as trips are limited and popular.
- Wear warm, waterproof clothes and non-slip shoes.
- Be flexible, as bad weather can cancel sailings.
