What to expect
Skomer is a small island off the Pembrokeshire coast, home to tens of thousands of puffins and other seabirds, as well as seals and rare small mammals. Boats leave from Martin's Haven and land visitors for a few hours, though landings are limited each day and need to be booked. The puffins are famously tame, and can be seen very close up on the grassy slopes.
Tips before you go
- Book well ahead, as numbers are limited and spring days sell out.
- Crossings depend on weather and can be cancelled.
- Wear walking shoes, as paths are uneven.
