What to expect
The Old Man of Storr is a famous rock pinnacle on the Trotternish ridge, rising from a hillside of towers and crags. A well-made path climbs through woodland to the base of the rocks, about two and a half miles there and back. The views over the Sound of Raasay are superb, and the site has featured in several films.
Tips before you go
- The car park is busy and fills early, so arrive at the start or end of the day.
- The path is steep in places and can be muddy, so wear walking boots.
- Midges can be a nuisance in summer, so bring repellent.
