What to expect
Loch Garten is an RSPB reserve in Strathspey, famous as the place where ospreys returned to nest in Scotland in the 1950s after being extinct for decades. From April to August, visitors can watch the birds from a hide and, through telescopes and live camera feeds, see them on their nest. The reserve also has walks through Caledonian pine forest, with crested tits, red squirrels and capercaillie in the woods.
Tips before you go
- Check that the ospreys are in residence, as dates vary each year.
- Bring binoculars, and dress warmly even in summer.
- Combine with a trip on the Strathspey Steam Railway from nearby Boat of Garten.
