Cardiff is Wales's compact, friendly capital, with a castle in the city centre and a regenerated waterfront at Cardiff Bay. This plan keeps day one in the centre and the Bay, and uses day two for St Fagans and a riverside walk.
Most of it is easy to reach on foot or by bus, and a lot of the main sights are free.
Day 1: Castle and the Bay
- Morning: Visit Cardiff Castle, with its Roman walls, Norman keep and lavish Victorian apartments.
- Lunch: Eat in the Victorian arcades or the covered market.
- Afternoon: Walk or take a bus to Cardiff Bay, with the Senedd, the Wales Millennium Centre and the waterfront.
- Evening: Have dinner at the Bay or in the city centre, then a show or a gig.
Day 2: St Fagans and the river
- Morning: Visit St Fagans National Museum of History, a large open-air museum with historic buildings from across Wales, and entry is free.
- Lunch: Eat at the museum or return to the centre.
- Afternoon: Walk along the River Taff and through Bute Park, behind the castle.
- Heading home: Cardiff Central is in the city centre, with fast trains to London and Bristol.
Where to stay
