Rutland Water is a huge reservoir in England's smallest county, ringed by a 23-mile path for walkers and cyclists, with wildlife, woodland and little villages around its shore. A tiny church on a promontory, Normanton Church, has become the symbol of the lake.
It is one of the best places in England to see ospreys, which breed here after a reintroduction scheme, and it offers sailing, fishing, and family activities.
