What to expect
Newquay is the best-known surfing town in England, and Fistral Beach hosts big surf events. Surf schools along the coast offer beginner lessons with wetsuits and boards provided. Cornish water is chilly even in summer, so a good wetsuit matters. Many schools also run lessons at gentler beaches such as Watergate Bay.
Tips before you go
- Choose a recognised surf school, ideally one that is registered with a national surfing body.
- Always surf between the red and yellow flags where lifeguards are present.
- Book ahead in July and August.
