Dartmouth is a handsome historic port on the steep west bank of the River Dart, with a medieval centre, a castle at the river mouth and the Royal Naval College above the town. Colourful houses line the quay, and boats come and go along the river.
It can be reached by a steam train to Kingswear and a ferry across the river, or by boat from Totnes, and has a strong food scene.
