What to expect
Known as La'al Ratty, this narrow-gauge steam railway runs seven miles from the coast at Ravenglass to Dalegarth, at the foot of the western Lake District fells. The tiny trains wind through woods, farmland and the Eskdale valley, and the journey ends near Stanley Ghyll waterfall and a start for walks. It is one of the most scenic small railways in Britain.
